Englandfahrt der neunten Klassen
Sunday: Trip to England and Brighton
On 31st May the year 9 students met at the school. After everyone had arrived and had shown the teachers their passport, we started our trip to England. Our first break was in Pforzheim. Then we drove to France and Luxembourg. In Luxembourg many people watched the UEFA Champions League final, which was PSG against Inter Milan. The match ended with a score of 5:0 for PSG. And by that time, we were in Belgium. Another two hours later we were at the port of Dunkirk and had to wait for the ferry. But first we had to go through a security check because we left the European Union. At 6 am the ferry left and took us to Dover. On the ferry you could eat and drink while watching the sea go by. At 7 am (English time) we started to drive to Brighton.
In Brighton we walked through the city. Then we walked to a very impressive building, the Royal Pavilion, where we waited for a visit. We were divided into three groups. Group A,B and C. We were the last group, so we had a lot of time to get something to eat and go to shops. After the visit of the Royal Pavilion, we drove to Eastbourne, where we were picked up by our host families. It was a very interesting day, but we were very tired.

Monday: Portsmouth
On Monday the bus picked us up at 8:15am and we drove one and a half hours to Portsmouth. When we arrived the sun was shining and we were all looking forward to the day.
We walked to the National Museum of the Royal Navy. A security man checked a few bags but we were quickly allowed to enter the museum grounds. We were split into our classes and visited three museums: The Nelson Gallery, the HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum.
At first we visited the Nelson Gallery which is about the story of a famous navy man, Lord Nelson, the Marines and life on a ship. We could try out many things like sending Morse Codes to each other or try on different navy clothes. Because of that we could imagine how life on a ship was like.
After that we visited the HMS Victory which was a warship of the British Navy. We could choose if we wanted to walk around the ship on our own or if we wanted to have audio guides so we could learn more about the ship. It was very impressive to walk around an old ship and we all took many photos. The ceiling was very low so in some areas so we had to keep our heads down. The stairs were very steep so we had to be careful. Unfortunately, some parts of the ship were closed for renovation so we could not enter them.
After a short break we went to the Mary Rose Museum where we could see many parts of a sunken ship. If we had any questions, there were many people who worked at the museum we could always ask. We could also find out about the crew and their life on the ship.
After those three interesting museums we made a boat tour around the harbour. It was very windy and very enjoyable in contrast to the warm weather on the Navy grounds. The captain told us what to can see so we learned something about the ships in the harbour of Portsmouth.
After the boat tour we walked into the city and we had some free time in which we could eat something and walk around the city. After that the bus picked us up and we drove to our host family. It was a very interesting and funny day.

Tuesday: London
The London Trip started at 7:15 am and ended at 8:45 pm. First, we drove around two and a half hours. After we had arrived, we walked to the river Thames. Then we got on a boat to our next destination, which was the Tower of London. During our boat ride we saw the Tower Bridge. At the Tower of London, we split into groups, so everybody could look at the things they wanted. We also saw the Crown Jewels, which we sadly couldn’t take photos of.
Later we took the tube to Victoria Station. From Victoria Station we walked to Buckingham Palace, but we couldn’t go inside. In front of Buckingham Palace, we had a short break and many students hoped that we would see King Charles III. Sadly, we did not see him. Then we quickly made our way to Big Ben. We crossed many streets, with many students ignoring that the traffic lights were red. The teachers were furious.
A bit later we went by tube to our next and last destination: Camden Town. When we started to walk to Camden Market, we noticed that one person was missing, luckily the teachers dealt with that. Then everything went smoothly and we arrived at the market, which is home to many shops. There we had lots of time to buy the things we wanted and to eat something. Everything was really tasty and we purchased many souvenirs. But many people searched a long time for a grocery store because it was far away and very well hidden. Some even had to ask the teachers. Luckily we found it and everyone got the things they needed. At 5:30 pm we met up in front of the tube station and then we drove back to North Greenwich.
Unfortunately, we had to split up during our journey to Greenwich and ended up taking different tubes. So some students took longer than others to arrive at the O2 arena. Then we walked back to the bus and drove back to our host families. In the end we arrived at 9 pm in Eastbourne.

Wednesday: Hiking Trip to the Seven Sisters
On a sunny and windy day, we started our trip with a bus ride from Eastbourne. The journey took us to the famous Seven Sisters cliff. From there, we began a 12-kilometre hike along the stunning coastline.
The landscape was beautiful, with breathtaking views of the chalk cliffs, the sea, and the green hills stretching out in all directions. The weather was sunny but quite windy, which made the hike both refreshing and challenging. However, the strong sun caused many of us ending up with a sunburn by the end of the day!
About halfway through the hike, we took a break at a rest area to recover and recharge. During the break, Noah had an arm-wrestling match with Mr. Brändle and Mrs. Gülke, which gave everyone a good time.
After finishing the hike, we walked back into Eastbourne and visited the pier, where we had some time to enjoy the seaside views and relax. Afterwards, we had some free time to explore Eastbourne on our own, do some shopping, or just rest.
In the late afternoon, we returned by bus, tired but happy after a day full of adventure and fresh air. It was a memorable trip that combined nature, fun, and good company.

Thursday: Canterbury
On Thursday morning, we got up early and said goodbye to our host mother. She was really friendly and even took us to the bus. At 7:15 a.m., we left and started our trip to Canterbury.
When we arrived, we first did a punting tour. That’s a boat ride on a small river through the city. It was really calm and nice, and we saw a lot of old buildings from the water. We took lots of pictures and enjoyed the relaxing start of the day.
After that, we had a guided tour through the city. We walked around, saw the cathedral and other old places. The guide told us about the history of Canterbury and we learned some interesting facts.
Later, we had some free time to explore Canterbury, buy snacks or souvenirs, and enjoy the city. After spending about nine hours in Canterbury, we got back on the bus and drove to the ferry. There, we missed the first ferry and had to wait for the next one. While we waited, most of us slept.
Then, on the ferry, we were a bit tired, but we had fun. Most of us played card games, had some food, and talked about the day. After the ferry ride, we were already back in France and on our way home to school.
It was a long but really fun day, and we will remember it for a long time.
